Position description

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Junior or Assistant Specialist for the laboratory of Dr. Jayanta Debnath (whose lab focuses on autophagy and cancer) and the newly created Translational Research Lab (TRL) in the Department. This individual will:

1) Perform specialized experimental research in the fields of cell biology, proteomics, and epithelial cancer biology in collaboration with other scientists in the Debnath lab and research faculty in UCSF Department of Pathology. Experiments that will be conducted will include, but are not be limited to, studies of molecular and cell biology, protein biochemistry, and monolayer and 3D cell culture.

2) Serve as lab manager of the Debnath lab and TRL. Major tasks will include, but are not limited to, writing and maintaining compliance with institutional biological/chemical safety and IACUC protocols; placing and receiving orders; organizing equipment; maintaining and organizing stock supplies and reagents; assigning lab tasks to other members; and shipping requested reagents to other laboratories.

Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, social science research methods, or creative activities). Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least five years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Experience with tissue culture and cell biology and experience with molecular biology and protein biochemistry is preferred.
