The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at the University of California, San Francisco wishes to recruit a full-time faculty at the Assistant to full Professor rank in the Health Sciences or Clinical X series to serve as the Director of the Acute Pain Services. Although not required, candidates with previous clinical research experience are desirable.

Applicants must have postgraduate training that includes: one year ACGME accredited internship, completion of an ACGME accredited anesthesia residency program, one year ACGME accredited pain medicine fellowship or equivalent, plus at least one year of clinical / operational experience providing pain management care. They must have a record of leadership within the area of pain medicine, and demonstrate excellence in teaching. Expertise in interventional pain medicine techniques, with an emphasis in perioperative analgesia is required. Applicants must have an anesthesiology certification from the American Board of Anesthesiology, have a valid Drug Enforcement Administration certification, and be eligible for a valid California medical license. A pain medicine certification from the American Board of Anesthesiology is highly preferred. Duties will include: clinical administration and supervision of medical staff on the Acute Pain Services. This includes operational oversight of inpatient activities that offer pharmacologic, interventional, and other subspecialty services integrated to care for patients with painful conditions. In addition, program strategic planning and evaluation, clinical research direction, organizational administration and liaising for Pain Services across UCSF Health will be required. The Director will serve as the clinical lead for resource development, clinical project prioritization, and activities related to quality improvement and compliance with accreditation bodies. Finally, he/she will foster an environment of teaching, learning and discovery and share oversight of the ACGME approved Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship Program.
