Foundations of Cognition Laboratory
The Foundations of Cognition Laboratory at UCSF, headed by principal investigator Saul Kato, seeks motivated researchers to fill scientific specialist positions at all levels.
Our lab studies the worm C. elegans and other simple model systems in the search for fundamental principles of cognitive brain function and dysfunction. We employ and develop a variety of cutting-edge experimental and computational approaches.
We are interested in researchers at all stages of experience and with expertise in any of the following wet lab experimental skills: microbiology, molecular biology, genomic engineering including CRISPR, microscopy, calcium imaging and optogenetics, and behavioral assays. A background in C. elegans or stem cell culture research is desirable. The selected candidate must possess a baccalaureate degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Engineering, or a related field.
The Foundations of Cognition Laboratory is part of the new UCSF Weill Institute of Neurosciences. This institute brings together psychiatry bench lab research with other basic neurosciences research, as well as clinical and support spaces, to drive advances aimed at new treatments for disorders of the brain and nervous systems. You may find more information about the UCSF Weill Institute at http://weill.ucsf.edu/about.
