Position description

Job Description: The Al-Sady lab at the Parnassus campus of UCSF is looking to appoint a Junior Specialist to conduct research related to a single cell epigenetics project in fission yeast. The research broadly encompasses yeast genetics and genomics, including strain construction and genetic crosses single cell fluorescence analysis, as well as standard molecular biology techniques. We are most interested in talented, motivated, enthusiastic candidates who have strong communication (written and verbal) skills and want to ultimately perform independent research. Candidates should be detail-oriented and possess excellent organization and analytical skills. The successful applicant must be willing and eager to work closely with other faculty and their lab members. A minimum 2 year commitment is strongly preferred.

Job Responsibilities: Perform experiments and data analysis under the direction of PI. Tasks will include constructing and validating fission yeast strains, analyzing strains by a variety of techniques including flow cytometry and perform lab managerial duties at 25-50% time. Additional duties will include orienting new members and actively participating in group meetings.

Education: BS/BS degree in a relevant field.

Experience: Experience working in a biology or biomedical research lab. Demonstrated experience with yeast genetics and genomics as well as standard molecular biology techniques.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: None required.

Physical Requirements: Normal physical requirements include good visual acuity and accurate color discrimination. The position requires excellent manual dexterity and familiarity utilizing delicate instrumentation.
