SEP Program Description
The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) seeks an individual with experience in science and/or health education to join the team at the Science & Health Education Partnership (SEP). SEP is a nationally recognized program that engages graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and staff from UCSF; K-12 teachers and students from San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD); industry-based STEM professionals and the general public in innovative experiences to enhance science learning. Efforts include teacher-scientist partnerships, student programs during the summer and academic year, and the Bay Area Science Festival.

Position Description
SEP is seeking an Academic Program Coordinator. The selected candidate will 1) coordinate SEP’s existing and nationally recognized classroom-based teacher-scientist partnership programs and 2) help launch a new initiative that engages high school students in community-based research to understand the awareness, knowledge and attitudes about timely health issues in their home communities. Responsibilities will include recruiting UCSF and SFUSD teachers and students, maintaining communications with participants (and high school students’ parents), collaborators and SEP colleagues on an on-going basis, designing and leading immersive learning experiences to prepare and support high school student researchers in their projects, supporting scientist-teacher teams through a variety of activities and events, providing informal science and health lesson consultation through the Daly Ralston Resource Center, visiting school sites, reviewing and editing lessons on SEPLessons (http://www.seplessons.org/), contributing to program evaluation, supporting SEP unit-wide events including those of the Bay Area Science Festival, and performing various administrative duties. SEP uses a team-based model: most programs have 2-3 coordinators working on them. Responsibilities and program assignments may change in future years.

Qualification Requirements
The successful candidate will have:

• Substantial experience in K-12 science or health education, scientific research, K-12 classroom or informal science teaching, educational research, and/or leading professional development for teachers;
• A graduate (Masters or PhD) in the biomedical or health sciences or in public health, and/or professional degree (RN, PharmD, MD, etc.));
• Demonstrated commitment to increasing diversity in science;
• Demonstrated ability to work with high school students in innovative learning settings;
• Demonstrated ability to work with both teachers and volunteers from the health and scientific community;
• Strong written and oral communication skills;
• Excellent organizational abilities and interpersonal skills;
• The abilities to prioritize tasks, to engage in long- and short-term planning, to be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances and environments, and to handle a variety of demands simultaneously;
• A willingness to embrace new challenges, persist through difficulty, and problem-solve creatively.

Candidates must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional travel, weekends, and extended hours during periods of intense activity. The following attributes, experiences, and knowledge are highly desirable: creativity and curiosity; in-depth knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards; grant writing experience; proficiency in Spanish; experience working directly with English Language Learners and culturally diverse populations at many levels; and program development and coordination experience.
