Associate Specialist Position Available
UCSF Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences

The Fischbach lab in the UCSF Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences has an Associate Specialist Position available immediately. UC San Francisco seeks candidates whose experience, teaching, research or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.

Salary will be commensurate with level of experience.

The Fischbach lab uses a combination of genomics and chemistry to identify and characterize small molecules from microbes, with an emphasis on the human microbiome. We seek an Associate Specialist to lead the research efforts on the DARPA project, which involves engineering multiple strains of E. coli harboring foreign enzymes in order to produce novel beta-aryl amines. The selected individual must be interested in working under the supervision of and in close coordination with the Principal Investigator of a research laboratory. The individual is required to have specialized experience with research conducted on the human microbiome, experience with tryptohan decarboxylases, and is proficient with a range of current techniques applicable to research in the biological sciences. A strong understanding of Genomics and Chemical Biology is preferred.

Requirements:

The candidate must possess a PhD degree in Biological Sciences (including Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or related fields).

The candidate must have three or more years of research experience, including greater than 12 months experience working on projects focused on the human microbiome.

Two or more manuscripts (published or submitted) in the applicant’s field of PhD or Postdoctoral study for which the applicant has contributed substantively to all aspects of manuscript preparation including preparing the figures, writing the text, and editing the text.

Two or more oral presentations at a formal scientific meeting (local, national or international) for which the applicant has substantively prepared the presentations.
Incumbent is expected to work well as part of a team and have enthusiasm for the practice of science.
