Position description

A junior specialist opportunity is available at the University of California, San Francisco in the Lee Laboratory. The Lee Lab is part of the Department of Radiation Oncology and Department of Medicine – Hematology/Oncology.

We are a lab focused on cancer immunotherapy research, including discovery of novel immunotherapy resistance pathways using preclinical and clinical data and testing new treatments to overcome resistance mechanisms.

This junior specialist will assist with cell culture, preclinical mouse research, molecular biology and immunology in a new translational cancer research laboratory at UCSF with a focus on next generation cancer immunotherapeutics. The candidate will support the lab in using high-throughput RNAseq, spatial transcriptomics, and other cutting-edge techniques with clinical sample analysis, develop novel animal models to conduct mechanistic studies, and test preclinical innovative immunotherapy strategies with CAR T cells, stereotactic radiation, and metastasis surgery. Specifically, the tasks will include the support for the lab's T cell culture, mouse research colony handling, molecular biology (RT-PCR, CRISPR, cloning, gel eletrophoresis, transfections, DNA/RNA extraction, chip arrays, cellular culture/screens, etc), computational transcriptomic data analysis using machine learning (RNAseq data analysis, R, Python, etc.), and clinical tissue processing/analysis for the above.

The specialist will also be encouraged to take advantage of other training and learning opportunities within the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and other related entities at UCSF. We hope this experience will prepare the applicant for future opportunities in biomedical research.
