Tenure Track Faculty Position: Symptom Science/Oncology Focus
Background: As a premier public university and a national and global leader in the preparation of nurse scientists, the UCSF School of Nursing is committed to advancing scholarship and teaching in symptom science in the oncology population. Symptom science is one of the signature research themes of our school, as identified in our strategic plan. It is closely tied to UCSF’s PRIDE Values (Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence). Our program of research in symptom science in the oncology population has a long track record of leadership at the local/regional, national, and international levels. As part of our commitment to continuing excellence in this area through succession planning we seek applications from early-stage researchers.
Position Description: Major responsibilities include: develop a signature program of research in symptom science in the oncology population; provide thought leadership in the advancement of symptom science; collaborate with trainees and faculty colleagues who share an interest in symptom science; participate in the development and delivery of curricula that will advance symptom science; and participate in our community as a leader and advocate for symptom science.
Selected candidates will be appointed at the level of Assistant Professor in the Ladder Ranked (tenure-earning) series.
Required Qualifications:
• PhD in Nursing or related field
• Demonstrated success in, or potential for, the development of a funded program of scholarship
• Active, or eligible for, unencumbered RN licensure issued by CA BRN
Preferred Qualifications:
• Post-doctoral training in symptom science research
• Experience with multidisciplinary research teams
• Experience teaching at the graduate level (Master’s degree or higher degree)
• Demonstrated teaching excellence
• Demonstrated expertise in teaching, mentoring and/or research that addresses the symptom experience of individuals living with cancer.
• Experience designing and developing online nursing coursework
• Strong communication, writing, problem solving and interpersonal abilities
• Experience working with underserved and diverse populations
• Experience working with biomarkers

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2022-23/oct-2022-salary-scales/t5-summary.pdf. The minimum base salary range for this position is $90,500 - $140,100. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan (https://ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-670.pdf) which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
