Junior or Assistant Specialist- Kastner Lab

The Kastner Lab at the University of California, San Francisco is looking for a Junior or Assistant Specialist to begin work in the Summer or Fall of 2023.This is a full-time paid position, two-year (minimum) commitment is required, during which the technician will work directly with the PI and other technicians performing large scale behavior in rats with in vivo electrophysiology recordings and surgical manipulations. The scientific goal of the project is to develop an understanding of the ways in which the brain supports individual behavior and goes awry in the context of diseases such as autism spectrum disorder.
Responsibilities include:
• Handling and behavioral training of rats
• Construction of microelectrode drives
• Development and analysis of behavioral paradigms
• Collection of large scale electrophysiological and behavioral datasets
• Surgery on rats
• Data Analysis
Required Qualifications:
• Junior rank- A Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, bioengineering or a related field
• Assistant rank- A Master’s degree in neuroscience, bioengineering or a related field or five years of relevant experience
• Candidates must meet the required qualifications by the start date.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with animal handling and behavior
• Experience with rodent surgery
• Computer programming experience (python or equivalent)
