Associate or Full Specialist - Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies (IHPS)

The Specialist’s primary responsibility is to work with one or more Principal Investigators on multiple research projects. The incumbent will help analyze large data sets to examine the effects of health workforce configuration on quality of care, impacts of public policies on health behaviors and outcomes, and other related policy-relevant topics. This work involves making recommendations about appropriate statistical methods, cleaning and organizing large data sets, carrying out complex quantitative analyses including econometrics and biostatistics methods, and creating tables and reports describing the results. The incumbent will assist in composing research proposals to request data access and to apply for human subject approval. The incumbent will contribute to writing articles for academic journals.

Required Qualifications:
• Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a Master’s degree in Psychology with a specific focus on quantitative analysis.
• Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) PhD degree in Psychology with a specific focus on quantitative analysis.
• Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.
• Applicants must have obtained the degree requirement for the Specialist rank by the time of hire.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in statistical analysis using Stata, SAS, and/or R.
• Experience with cleaning, linking, and analyzing large data sets.
• Experience analyzing large federal databases on substance abuse such as the NAS and NSDUH.
• Experience analyzing survey data and application of survey weights.
• Formal training or hands-on experience with biostatistics and econometric techniques such as instrumental variables, difference-in-differences, cluster analysis.
• Ability to independently conduct sophisticated analytic work using complex restricted data sets, including expertise with biostatistical and/or econometric techniques.
• Excellent skills analyzing data with Stata, R, and/or SAS
• Experience with carrying out linear and logistic regressions using longitudinal and/or geocoded datasets.
• Experience preparing tables, figures, and text that summarize research findings for inclusion in reports or journal articles.
• Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing.
• Ability and willingness to assist with managing lab employees
• Knowledge of using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for presentation of results.
• Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of the substance abuse, food systems research and policies under investigation
• Familiarity with Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements for research involving human subjects
• Knowledge of all of the programs Stata, R, and SAS
• Knowledge of Python and SQL
