Assistant/Associate Adjunct Professor of Surgery – Beta Cell Scientist

The Department of Surgery, Division of Transplant Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking a full-time innovative scientist with expertise in pancreatic islet transplantation, and strategies for developing an extrahepatic site suitable for engraftment of stem cell derived islets. The candidate will join a vibrant team of scientists working at the cutting edge of basic science and clinical medicine, particularly with respect to treating diabetes mellitus with beta cell replacement.

The candidate will lead a research program dedicated to developing new strategies for beta cell replacement with adult islets and/or stem cell derived beta cells to treat diabetes mellitus. We welcome researchers who are developing new technologies or collaborating with other colleagues to test various technologies in unique settings. We especially seek candidates who are developing new strategies that have the potential for clinical applications, in partnership with our community of clinician-scientists.

Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in immunology or related fields, and have at least 5 years of experience in pancreatic islet transplantation or islet physiology.

Candidates must have recognized skills in the education of residents and medical students and will be expected to be active participants in the Division’s residency training and educational programs.
