Professional Non Faculty Academic (NFA) Associate Researcher

Position Requirements Summary
Position for highly motivated Professional Non Faculty Academic (NFA) Associate Researcher is available with the Program in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Candidate will be hosted in a highly interactive, collaborative, and friendly laboratory with emphasis on mentorship and personal growth.

Candidate will be expected to carry out specific experiments at the laboratory bench to enable the broader mission of the lab. These studies will include basic molecular biology techniques, polymer synthesis, microbial culture, and microscopy. The candidate will be expected to identify resources to develop a leading laboratory examining interactions between living organisms and materials science, including facilitating collaborations across campus. These experimental approaches will require the candidate to be highly engaged and proactive in a dynamic research environment and in a highly collaborative atmosphere.

Required Qualifications
• PhD required in chemical engineering, bioengineering or related field and postdoctoral experience following completion of the PhD.
• Basic knowledge of laboratory practices and safety;
• General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact productively with lab and campus personnel;
• Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and work under deadlines with general guidance;
• Excellent organizational and planning skills to accurately complete detailed work;
• Team player.

Highly Preferred Qualifications
• Expertise with techniques and methods in microbiology and synthetic biology.
• Experience with the emerging field of engineered living materials.
• Experience with scientific communication to the general public.
• Experience managing efforts of more junior scientists.
