Position description

Microbiome faculty position search

The Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine (BCMM) is seeking a visionary translational scientist to join our vibrant and growing research community at the University of California San Francisco. This open-rank, faculty position is part of a broader campus-wide initiative to foster diversity equity and inclusion in biomedical research. Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. and/or MD and have demonstrated outstanding research accomplishment and potential. They should also have a clear record of mentorship – particularly of students from groups that are typically underrepresented in biomedical science.

Candidates working in all areas of microbiome research are welcome to apply. Candidates with demonstrated expertise in computational, particularly systems biology approaches and/or translational research particularly microbial therapeutic development, are encouraged to apply. Depending on the area of research specialization, the successful candidate may be jointly appointed in one of our clinical or basic science departments or divisions. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a highly collaborative and interactive translational research program, to join one of our top-ranked interdisciplinary graduate programs (see https://graduate.ucsf.edu/list-programs), excel at graduate teaching and inclusive mentoring, and participate in activities that promote equity and inclusion. Service and teaching expectations are comparable to those of any other tenure-track faculty position.

Faculty appointment will be made at a professorial rank commensurate with current academic standing. UCSF offers competitive salaries, research set-up funds, and recruitment allowances, and has numerous opportunities for faculty development and further training in mentorship. Applications must be submitted online and include the following documents as a single PDF:
