The Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology, University of California, San Francisco is seeking outstanding candidates for a full time academic surgeon with an exemplary record of patient care and expertise in Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (HPB) Surgery. Candidates must have completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology by the time of hire and have expertise in liver, bile duct, gastric and pancreatic surgery. Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission. This position will work jointly with HPB surgeons at the UCSF campuses and be expected to grow an existing HPB practice at John Muir Health (JMH) Walnut Creek Campus.

The selected candidate will be expected to demonstrate experience in, and to develop, a research program in health services research, outcomes, or cancer biology. There will be ample opportunities for collaborative research with UCSF and JMH faculty. It is expected that the candidate will be integral to patient safety and quality research initiatives, protocol and clinical pathway development, team building, and directing multidisciplinary clinical tumor boards.

The position will focus on expanding the existing HPB clinical practice by working together in a transdisciplinary manner with primary care, medical oncology and interventional gastroenterology at JMH. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, affability, and be able to work collaboratively with other clinicians, nurses, supportive staff, and administration. We also value applicants with evidence of strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to interact with stakeholders and organizations at all levels. Candidates who have clinical experience and commitment to cancer clinical research are highly encouraged to apply. Candidates must have recognized skills in the education of surgery residents and medical students and will be expected to be active participants in the Department’s residency training and educational programs.

This position will join a team of 7 experienced HPB/ Surgical Oncologists as part of a world class academic and comprehensive cancer center. Our Liver and Pancreas cancer program is patient centered. Team members meet weekly to discuss optimal patient treatment recommendations and incorporate the latest technology and research protocols. John Muir Health includes two large medical centers in Contra Costa County (Walnut Creek and Concord). Walnut Creek is a 554-licensed bed Medical Center with a proven hepatobiliary volumes and highly supportive group of surgeons.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2022-23/oct-2022-salary-scales/t5-summary.pdf. The minimum base salary range for this position is $135,700 - $213,500. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan (https://ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-670.pdf) which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
