Jr/Assistant specialist /Associate Specialist/Specialist

Job Description

A specialist position is available in Drs. Bastian/ Chen laboratory in the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at Mission Bay Campus of UCSF. The position will support research projects focused on disease mechanisms of uveal melanoma, with the goal to identify novel therapeutic strategies. The specialist will perform standard molecular cell biology experiments including cell culture, western blotting, isolation of DNA and RNA from tissues and cells, RT-PCR, and mouse studies including breeding, genotyping, and drug treatment. We are looking for motivated candidates with the desire to work in a team at the frontier of research in a disease are that is in desperate need for new treatment approaches.

Required Qualifications:
• Experience in working with laboratory mice
• Experience in tissue culture and western blotting
• Experience in PCR

Preferred Qualifications, particularly for more senior positions:
• Graduate degree in a science related field.
• Experience in molecular cloning and mouse tumor xenograft model.
• Scientific curiosity and a strong motivation to contribute to the field.
• At least two (2) years of previous research experience

Education:
• Specialist must possess a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or at least for years of research experience to be appointed at the Junior rank.
• Specialists must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent) or five to ten years of experience in molecular biology or cancer research to be appointed at the Assistant or Associate ranks
• Specialist must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent) or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization to be appointed at the Full rank.
• Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment.
