Junior Specialist - Diaz lab

The Diaz lab in the UCSF Brain Tumor Center seeks a highly motivated individual for the position of Junior Specialist. Our lab studies primary brain tumors using genomics and molecular approaches. Under direct supervision and training, the Junior Specialist will become familiar with single-cell genomics assays, cell culture, and other molecular assays. Job responsibilities and opportunities include, but are not limited to, assisting with: cell culture, processing of clinical specimens, single-cell genomics assays, and day-to-day lab management activities.

This position requires analytical thinking, a strong commitment to our shared goals, attention to detail and accurate record keeping. BA/BS in the Biomedical Sciences or a Quantitative discipline by the start date. Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission. This position is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in basic molecular and genomics skills in preparation for application to a PhD or MD program. Prior laboratory experience, familiarity with cellular and/or genomics assays, or bioinformatics/computational skills are preferred but not required.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
