UCSF Health, a world leader in research and academic medicine, is recruiting compassionate inpatient addiction-trained physicians to lead and staff a new inpatient addiction consult service. UCSF Health is searching for an excellent team member with expertise and passion to improve care for patients who use drugs to lead this important new clinical service and improve addiction care for patients admitted to UCSF Health. This role will be supported by an addiction nurse practitioner, a Quality Medical Director of Addiction, a program analyst, and a dedicated social worker.
Successful candidates will be trained in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry, and will be responsible for leadership, oversight, and medical management of the new inpatient addiction consult service. Responsibilities include building a new consult service through direct patient care and relationship-building, teaching residents and students, providing direct patient care, managing concerns of other clinicians staffing the service, assisting other departments with direct interactions with physicians or medical staff, and working with the Quality Medical Director to ensure that high-quality, safe, and effective care is delivered to admitted patients with substance use disorders. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinician with interest in working in an academic addiction setting and building and growing a new clinical service.
In addition, the new faculty member would spend time in their chosen specialty at UCSF Health. We are open to candidates practicing in either inpatient or outpatient general medicine, or some combination of both.
We anticipate that the majority of clinical time will be on the inpatient addiction consult service, with the remaining time divided between other clinical, administrative, and teaching responsibilities.
To best meet the needs of our diverse patient population, trainees, and the city of San Francisco, we specifically seek applicants who demonstrate a unique contribution and commitment to diversity. We are committed to promoting the diversity of our physician workforce and to fostering an equitable and inclusive care and learning environment.
Successful candidates for faculty positions will have strong references and show evidence of or potential for outstanding teaching and demonstrate potential for academic success.
Interested applicants for all positions should apply with a letter of interest, their CV, and contacts for three references. Candidates must possess an MD degree (or equivalent degree), be board certified/eligible in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry either via fellowship training or practice pathway, and be eligible for licensure in the State of California at the time of hire. In addition, all applicants for UCSF faculty appointments are required to submit a “Contributions to Diversity” statement in their application.
