Physician-Scientist – Experimental Pathology Research

The Department of Pathology at the University of California, San Francisco seeks outstanding physician-scientists for a full-time faculty position with research, teaching, and clinical responsibilities at the Assistant Professor Level in the tenure-track (Ladder Rank) or In-Residence series. The successful candidate will direct an independent basic or translational research program focused on any area of biomedical science related to human disease, such as cancer biology, developmental and stem cell biology, immunobiology, inflammation,and cell injury. Additional duties will include departmental and university teaching for graduate students, medical students, house-staff and fellows, and clinical service commensurate with the individual’s qualifications and interests. A track record of innovative accomplishment in basic/translational research and an interest in working within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment is necessary. The candidate will have or seek to develop a robust portfolio of extramural grant support, and will be proposed for membership in the Biomedical Science (BMS) Graduate Program.

The successful candidate must possess an MD or MD/PhD, be Board Certified or Board eligible in Anatomic Pathology at the time of appointment, and must have or be eligible for a medical license in California at the time of appointment. Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission. A minimum of two years demonstrated postdoctoral research experience is preferred. Individuals with a documented record of grant support are highly desirable. Salary and appointment rank will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience and training.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2022-23/oct-2022-salary-scales/t5-summary.pdf. The minimum base salary range for this position is $135,700 - $177,800. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan (https://ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-670.pdf) which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
