Position description

Department of Anesthesia, ZSFG, General Faculty Search

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at Zuckerberg San Francisco Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) is seeking faculty to work as a part of a team emphasizing high quality, patient-centered perioperative care with a focus on evidence-based medicine. This is an outstanding opportunity to join an established Anesthesia Department with a national reputation of excellence in education, research, and perioperative care. Hired candidates will become UCSF Faculty working primarily at ZSFG.

ZSFG, located in San Francisco’s Mission District, is the only Level 1 Trauma Center available for the over 1.5 million people living and working in San Francisco and northern San Mateo counties. ZSFG is also a safety-net hospital that provides 24-hour comprehensive emergent, urgent and non-urgent care to more than 100,000 adult and pediatric patients annually.

General clinical responsibilities for Anesthesia Faculty include a combination of providing anesthesia independently and supervising residents and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs). Anesthesia is provided in various locations, including 14 busy operating rooms with diverse surgical case types, and active endoscopic and interventional radiology suites. Faculty are also expected to participate on the regional, pediatric, obstetric, inpatient pain, trauma anesthesia, and preoperative clinic services.

Successful applicants will demonstrate an aptitude for and dedication to medical education and providing evidence based, high quality care in clinical teams that enhance the patient experience with a commitment to patient safety and satisfaction. Expertise and interest in the areas of trauma, regional and obstetric anesthesia, pain management, and domestic and global health equity align with the department’s focus areas. Applicants are expected to teach residents and medical students; participate in University service, faculty meetings, monthly Grand Rounds and M&M conferences; contribute to quality assurance programs and continuing education; and advance the mission of the department.

Our department philosophy is aligned with UCSF campus leadership in the areas of recruiting and retaining individuals traditionally under-represented in the health sciences, LGBTQ, and individuals with disabilities, to better reflect the diversity of the population we serve in the San Francisco Bay Area. We further recognize that successfully recruiting people to join our enterprise is not the end of the story. It is also critical that we provide an environment in which all individuals in our workforce and trainee programs experience a professional, supportive, collaborative and open environment and have the opportunity to thrive. We are dedicated to the ongoing pursuit of these goals.

The successful candidate must meet the following qualifications by time of hire:

• Must hold an MD, DO, or equivalent degree and be board eligible or certified in Anesthesia.
• Must possess a valid California Medical License.
• Must be fellowship trained or have equivalent advanced training and/or experience beyond that of anesthesia residency training.
• Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.
