Junior Specialist - Tang Lab
Diabetes Center

The Tang Lab in the Diabetes Center at University of California, San Francisco is looking to recruit a Junior Specialist.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Incumbent will be expected to help on mouse islet transplantation surgeries, mouse glucose monitoring and weighing.
• Research activities to be carried out by the incumbent will include: flow cytometry analysis and sort, in vitro expansion of human Treg cells, cloning, performing in vitro functional assays.

Required Qualifications:
• Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must have (or in process of obtaining) a BA/BS degree in biological sciences (or related science).
• Applicants must have obtained the degree requirement for the Specialist rank by the time of hire.
• Knowledge of and experience with mouse husbandry and handling.
• Comfortable working with laboratory instruments and computers; Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Comfortable working with primary human blood samples.
• The ability to work under minimal supervision after the initial training period is key for this position.
• Strong organization skills in time management and maintenance of accurate notebooks and computer files.
• Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to learn and highly motivated to succeed.
• Willingness to be flexible with work hours to accommodate experimental schedules.
• Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Basic cell and molecular biology protocols: tissue culture, PCR, DNA sequence analysis and/or cloning are desirable.
