Junior Specialist – Hellman Lab

The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative is seeking a Junior Specialist. The responsibilities include mouse colony management, including genotyping and oversight of transgenic mouse colony breeding/husbandry/inventory, helping design then performing molecular and cellular experiments under supervision. Manage mice projects including genotyping husbandry, and colony organization. Perform and assist with experiments using mouse models of acute inflammation, infection, and injury. Perform tissue culture, ELISA, PCR, qPCR, Western Blotting, and animal behavior assay. Organize data and keeping detailed records: experience preparing laboratory solutions. Manage lab common supplies and lab maintenance, including order and waste disposal. Presence in the lab during working hours, 8-5 Monday – Friday.

Required Qualifications:
Must have a BA/BS degree in a biological or related science by the time of hire and experience with the basic techniques or methods required by the position; or must have at least four years of research experience. Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
