Professional Researcher - Cardiovascular Research Institute

The Cardiovascular Research Institute at University of California, San Francisco is seeking for a Professional Researcher at the Assistant or Associate rank.

Area of Specialization / Responsibilities:

• Independently design and oversee the execution of laboratory research projects related to the understanding of cardiovascular gene regulatory networks in development, disease, and regenerative processes.
• Independently create and submit grant proposals and participate in writing manuscripts.
• Train laboratory personnel to conduct experimental procedures/methodologies, including mouse and fish histology and transgenesis.
• Develop research proposals based on novel scientific data and interact with multiple cross-disciplinary investigators from multiple organizations, both national and international.
• Perform project management functions for collaborative projects involving multiple laboratories.
• Provide mentoring and guidance on scientific and research matters as well as research activities to staff research associates and graduate students.

Required Qualifications:

• PhD and 4+ years of postdoctoral training in Biological Sciences/Cell Biology/Developmental biology.
• Advanced knowledge of cardiovascular and hemato-endothelial biology, transcriptional regulation of morphogenesis and embryonic development, standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, next-generation sequencing-based approaches to biological interrogations, and in vivo mouse modeling.
• Extensive knowledge of genetic mouse models; experience working with different developmental organisms including, but not limited to, zebrafish and chick embryos.
• Background in utilization of cell biological approaches to study embryonic development. Broad knowledge base in developmental signaling pathways and transcription factor regulation and function.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute data and technical content to grant proposals.
• Proven skills and experience in independently resolving challenges that arise in collection or analysis of laboratory data.
• Self-motivated with ability to work independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated experience and ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff; technical, students, faculty and administrators.
• Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization and to external research and education audiences.
• Proven ability to successfully work on multiple concurrent projects.
• Ability to effectively manage his/her own time.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated expertise in the study of Nodal signaling in outflow tract development and/or laterality.
• Demonstrated expertise in the design, execution, and completion of mouse genetics studies using CRISPR/Cas9 technology.
• Interest and proven ability to train and guide the efforts of junior members of the team towards carrying out the broader goals of the laboratory.
