Position description

The Kriegstein Lab, located at the UCSF Parnassus Heights campus, is seeking a highly motivated candidate interested in conducting basic science research with a focus on studying the molecular mechanisms of brain development. This full-time position will involve working closely with the PI as well as members of the laboratory.

The Specialist in this role will be: involved in studies of human brain development using genomic, physiological and molecular biological techniques. The selected candidate will participate in data acquisition and analysis and may co-author scientific papers. The selected candidate will be expected to have their own project but also to assist postdocs and students with their projects as well in order to broaden their experience. They will also be expected to take courses on human pathogens and laboratory safety as well as ethical conduct of research.

Required qualifications:
• Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, social science research methods, or creative activities).
• Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five years of experience in the relevant specialization.
• Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.
• Specialists appointed at the full rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization.
• Applicants may be in process of obtaining their required degrees and/or years of experience in the relevant specialization at the time of application, however, these qualifications must be obtained by appointment start date.
