Position description

Research technician/laboratory manager position

The Department of Surgery at the University of California San Francisco is seeking to fill a position as a research technician and laboratory manager (http://willenbringlab.surgery.ucsf.edu). The laboratory studies mechanisms of liver disease and regeneration with the goal to develop the basis for new therapies (Chen, Cell Stem Cell 2020; Schaub, Nature 2018; Rezvani, Cell Stem Cell 2016).

Responsibilities include monitoring, ordering and stocking of supplies, maintenance of equipment, breeding and genotyping of transgenic mice, and contribution to research projects using human induced pluripotent stem cells, adenoassociated viral vectors and humanized mice.

Minimum qualifications for the position are a bachelor’s degree (can be in process at the time of application but needs to be received by appointment start date) in biology or a related discipline with 2 years of (undergraduate) laboratory experience, proficiency in standard molecular and cell biology techniques, effective oral and written communication, good organizational and interpersonal skills, analytical thinking, proficiency with Mac and PC platforms and ability to multitask in a deadline-oriented environment. Experience with mouse handling or pluripotent stem cell culture would be advantageous.

Appointees in the specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in university and public service.
