Research Specialist – Mattis Lab
Department of Pathology
The Mattis Laboratory at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) studies the mechanisms regulating lipid metabolism in human liver diseases. We seek a Research Specialist position to work as part of a team on a human fatty liver research project. This individual will conduct experiments under the direct supervision of a senior postdoc and will also receive mentoring and direct guidance from the principal investigator in order to advance their career in academic research. Techniques that may be used include iPS cells, DNA cloning and PCR, protein purification and pull downs, enzymology, tissue culture, and tissue immunohistochemical evaluation. Additional responsibilities include ordering, organizing and maintaining stocks of lab supplies and reagents, and performing other duties as assigned.
• Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or must have at least four years of relevant research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, social science research methods, or creative activities).
• Independent specialized research.
Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
