Imaging Scientist | Specialist
UCSF Department of Neurology, School of Medicine

The Department of Neurology at UCSF is recruiting a Specialist to serve as the Imaging Scientist who will co-direct the newly inaugurated Innovation Core (iCore) in the Weill Institute for Neurosciences (WIN). The iCore is an advanced microscopy facility located in the newly opened Weill Institute for Neurosciences Building on the UCSF Mission Bay campus. The Imaging Scientist will have an affiliation with one or more laboratories in the WIN and access to a wide spectrum of experimental and computational resources.

The mission of the iCore is to (1) provide access to state-of-the-art commercial microscopy to researchers at UCSF, (2) facilitate the development and use of bleeding-edge, pre-commercial, microscopes for active research programs, and (3) facilitate interactions between biologists and technologists. The iCore is a designated Leica Center of Excellence

Successful candidates must possess at least six years post-doctoral experience in Imaging Science and a commitment to open access technology and support. Strong data analysis and computational experience is desired. Among the position’s essential duties will be the development and implementation of novel microscopy systems and analysis methodology, with an emphasis on open access architecture and software. Strong communication skills and a desire to help train the next generation of scientists in imaging techniques are essential.

Requirements:
-PhD in Biology, Cell or Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, Physics, Engineering, or other related areas
-At least six years of experience with state-of-the-art biological microscopy techniques

Preferred:
-Software development experience
-Familiarity with modern data analysis pipelines and computing platforms
-Exposure to Neuroscience and/or Cell Biology research
