The UCSF Division of Hospital Medicine at UCSF Health is seeking applicants for academic hospitalist positions. Our goal is to provide these new faculty members with clinical experiences that match their interests while also creating opportunities to explore and develop a path for self-defined academic success. Faculty positions combine clinical experiences on the teaching, direct care, and consult services with dedicated time for faculty development and pursuit of academic interests. These academic interests can include (but are not limited to): social medicine, medical education, quality improvement, patient safety, high-value care, global health, and informatics.
There are two academic hospitalist positions in the UCSF Health Division of Hospital Medicine: one based at UCSF Health and one based at St. Mary’s Medical Center, our community-based affiliate. The position at UCSF Health allows opportunities to care for patients at three different campus sites within the health system. The position at St. Mary’s Medical Center may align with those who are interested in an academic hospitalist position in a smaller community hospital setting with more of a clinical focus. Candidates for the academic hospitalist position are asked to specify which academic hospitalist position (UCSF Health or St. Mary’s Medical Center) they are interested in and are welcome to apply for both positions.
To best meet the needs of our diverse patient population, trainees, and the city of San Francisco, the Division of Hospital Medicine is specifically seeking applicants who demonstrate a unique contribution and commitment to diversity. We are committed to promoting the diversity of our physician workforce and to fostering an equitable and inclusive care and learning environment.
Successful candidates for faculty positions will be excellent clinicians with strong references. Successful candidates demonstrate a commitment to equitable patient care, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and dedication towards furthering the field of hospital medicine through their scholarly and teaching experiences. Candidates must possess an MD, DO, or equivalent degree, be board certified/eligible in Internal Medicine, and be eligible for licensure in the State of California at the time of hire.
In addition, all applicants for UCSF faculty appointments are required to submit a “Contributions to Diversity” statement in their application. Guidelines can be found here: https://diversity.ucsf.edu/contributions-to-diversity-statement.
The UCSF Division of Hospital Medicine is excited to announce the Junior Faculty Diversity Award! This is a unique faculty development award designed to support new junior faculty in the Division and enhance the diversity of our workforce. The goal is to provide additional funding for junior faculty to support career growth and promote academic activities within the Division. The Award will provide the selected candidate with an additional 15% academic salary to support their first two years (roughly $30,000/year), which can be used to focus on any facet of hospital medicine of interest to the candidate, such as quality improvement, medical education, research, social medicine, or clinical excellence. There will be two awards for the 2022-2023 academic year. We believe it is essential to enhance the diversity of the Division and we define diversity broadly as race, culture, religion, mental or physical abilities, age, gender, sexual orientation, distance traveled, and first generation professional. To apply, please submit a letter of intent outlining how you would use the additional academic time to enhance your career and enhance the diversity of the DHM. Email letter to Rosemary.Yau@ucsf.edu. Candidates will be selected based on their academic potential and contribution to the diversity of the Division. Please note, this application for the Junior Faculty Diversity Award is not required in order to apply for the academic hospitalist position.
