Position description

The Nowakowski and Sanders labs are focused on understanding how the human brain develops, how this differs between females and male, and how development is altered in disorders, such as developmental delay and autism. By understanding these neurobiological processes, we ultimately hope to develop strategies to improves the lives of those affected by these disorders. We seek a highly motivated individual to join our teams to work on large-scale projects as part of a nationwide collaboration to solve long-standing problems in human neuroscience.

This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-paced team at UCSF that works at the cutting edge of genetics and functional genomics, particularly single-cell technologies. The opportunity will provide numerous opportunities for growth through supervision from faculty members and interactions with other highly motivated lab members and collaborators at UCSF and other institutions and the potential to develop skills in genetics, developmental biology, and bioinformatics. You will be responsible for developing single-cell genomic technologies and applying these to generate large-scale datasets.

We are looking for an individual who is meticulous, highly organized, passionate about science, excellent at problem solving, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will be willing to work closely with technology developers and collaborators in diverse scientific fields and apply these insights to streamline the process of data generation.

Required qualifications:
• Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, social science research methods, or creative activities).
• Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five years of experience in the relevant specialization.
• Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.

Key requirements include proven ability in molecular biology, excellent organizational and communication skills. Experience in next-generation sequencing and data analysis would be desired. All qualifications must be met by appointment effective date.
