Director of Research for the UCSF Pediatric Heart Center
In Residence Faculty Series
The Division of Cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco, and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals are recruiting an established cardiovascular researcher to direct and coordinate research efforts on congenital heart disease throughout the UCSF Pediatric Heart Center. Appointments will be proposed at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor ranks of the In Residence faculty series. Academic rank is commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate is expected to engage in academic activities within the Cardiovascular Research Institute. Laboratory, and other space, will be located in the Smith Cardiovascular Research Building on UCSF’s vibrant Mission Bay Campus. Responsibilities will include oversight of educational and research activities in the UCSF Pediatric Heart Center and shared responsibility for Heart Center administration. In addition to expanding their own research program, the successful candidate will lead strategic planning and implementation of Heart Center-Wide research efforts to build a robust research infrastructure for innovative research in the UCSF Pediatric Heart Center. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
• Qualified candidates must possess a Medical Degree or Doctoral Degree.
• Minimum 3 years’ as Principal Investigator of an established research program relevant to Pediatric Cardiology.
• Documented leadership experience in collaborative research infrastructure development.
• Relevant research areas might include cardiovascular developmental biology using model systems, cardiovascular genetics, or epigenetics, patient-based research, or epidemiology in cardiovascular diseases. Board certification in Pediatrics, and subspecialty certification in Pediatric Cardiology; including formal clinical training or adequate experience in heart failure, mechanical support and transplant.
• CA Medical License/Eligibility.
Expected duties include:
• Medical Director, Pediatric Heart Failure/Transplant/Assist Device Program: responsible for all aspects of the program’s development, administration, and clinical activities. Candidate will work with the hospital administration, the Heart Center, and the Department of Pediatrics in optimizing the structure, fiscal status, administrative organization, and clinical outcomes. Successful candidate will have administrative oversight of the program in collaboration with the Surgical Director.
• Heart Failure/Transplant/Assist Device Program Clinical Responsibilities: Inpatient consultation in the ICU and CTCU, mechanical assist oversight, and outpatient clinics. Successful candidate will oversee data management for the programs clinical and financial activities including: collection, analysis, and presentation. They will lead and encourage all academic aspects of the program and its members.
• Inpatient Cardiology Service: Successful candidate will be a member of the inpatient cardiology service along with approximately 8 other Pediatric Cardiologists. The service runs the 12-bed Cardiac Transitional Care Unit (CTCU) and consults on all other Pediatric Cardiology patients (pre-and post-surgical, and medical consultation) in the hospital. The weekday service will entail approximately 8 weeks of weekday service. The weekend on call service will be shared among a larger group of cardiologists, entailing about 6 weekends per year.
