Description
Job Description: The Wang lab in the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology at UCSF is looking to appoint a Junior Specialist to manage a laboratory research project and serve as the laboratory manager. The project is to generate a single cell resolution map of the mammalian liver during homeostasis and injury. It involves using a variety of laboratory techniques including single cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics to identify and characterize novel cell populations and to understand their interactions with each other in the liver during homeostasis and disease. We are most interested in talented, motivated, enthusiastic candidates who have strong communication (written and verbal) and management skills. Candidates should be detail-oriented and possess excellent organizational skills. A minimum 2-year commitment is strongly preferred.

Job Responsibilities: Tasks will include isolation of murine and human hepatocytes, including using FACS sorting, isolation and handling of DNA and RNA, perform PCR and qPCR, organ harvest, tissue sectioning and histology including in situ hybridization and immunostaining and single cell transcriptome studies including bioinformatics analysis. Will perform other duties as needed. Independently perform a number of molecular and cell biological techniques, including isolation of murine and human liver cells, tissue histology, microscopy and bioinformatics analysis. Independently organize experimental data and to keep detailed records of experiments, perform other duties as needed.

Education:
• Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
• Candidates must meet the requirements by the time of appointment.

Experience: Experience with basic histological techniques, including tissue sectioning is required. Experience with microscopy, including light microscopy and fluorescence microscopy is required. Basic DNA technology and basic laboratory techniques are required.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: None required.

Physical Requirements: Normal physical requirements include good visual acuity and accurate color discrimination. The position requires excellent manual dexterity and familiarity utilizing delicate instrumentation.
