Position description

Assistant or Associate Specialist Position at UCSF, Parnassus

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to apply for a full-time assistant or associate specialist position in our immunology research laboratory, based at the Parnassus campus of UCSF in the Department of Lab Medicine. Our research group studies how tissue-resident immune cells impact organ development, remodeling, and disease, with a focus on lymphocytes associated with type 2 ‘allergic’ immunity. We use a combination of advanced confocal imaging, single cell and bulk transcriptomics, and genetic manipulation in mouse models, including studies in neuroimmunology, lung immunobiology, and immunometabolism. The successful candidate will provide administrative and technical support to the Principal Investigator and other laboratory members. The support role includes assisting with purchasing and budgeting, interacting with regulatory bodies concerning lab compliance, laboratory organization, and mouse care and genotyping. Ultimately, about 30-40% of the candidate’s time will be devoted to lab management and technical support. The remaining time will be allocated to a supervised research project. The expected start date is August 1st, 2021, although flexibility is possible. Candidates must have a master’s or doctorate degree in a related biologic science and prior experience in immunology research at the time of appointment. Candidate’s CV must state qualifications (or if pending) upon submission. Ideal candidates will be motivated, personable, intelligent, and enthusiastic about scientific discovery and our lab’s research. Several years of laboratory experience, as well as a background in flow cytometry/cell sorting, advanced 3D microscopy, molecular biology, and mouse husbandry are preferred. We are most interested in candidates who want to perform independent research in addition to supporting the lab. Salary and benefits are on the UCSF pay scale and will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience.

UC San Francisco seeks candidates whose experience, teaching, research, or community service that has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran status.
