Job description:
The UCSF Library seeks a creative and innovative life-long learner to serve as Education and Research Librarian with a focus as liaison to the School of Medicine (SOM) and support liaison to the School of Pharmacy (SOP). The successful candidate has a passion for integrating diversity, equity, and inclusivity best practices into their teaching and enjoys the challenge of leveraging established and emerging technologies to provide optimal user-centered services.

Reporting to the Associate University Library for Research and Learning, this position is part of a team of librarians which provide teaching and research services to our diverse and distributed campus community. This position works closely with faculty, staff, and researchers within the SOM and SOP to provide consultation services in diverse areas, including educational scholarship and research. We seek an individual who can thrive in UCSF’s complex and dynamic environment. Librarians must adapt quickly, apply new knowledge to solve problems, and excel as members of a team.

All services are currently delivered remotely due to COVID-19. This position will be required to routinely work on campus in the near future.

Responsibilities:
Teaching & Outreach - 40%
• Proactively seek opportunities to engage with the SOM and SOP to plan curricula, integrate library resources and to support the evolving needs of education across UCSF.
• Develop and deliver instructional content utilizing inclusive best practices to support the educational and research needs of the UCSF community within a shared team approach, with a specific focus on the SOM and SOP. Integrate work with UCSF’s online learning environment.
• Create and maintain online guides and other research support tools.
• Develop and carry out plans to continuously promote library services. This may include the development of relationships with employees in departments across UCSF in order to develop effective information and knowledge solutions and/or improve resource usage and service effectiveness.
• Collaborate with the Data Management Librarian and Scholarly Communications Librarian to develop and teach instruction sessions on open science and publishing.

Research Support - 40%
• Engage and participate in a competency-based services model within which the education and research team collaboratively designs and delivers audience specific curricula, library trainings and workshops, and additional shared services including systematic review support in order to enhance evidence-based practice and scholarly research across UCSF.
• Educate the UCSF community in the use of library resources and tools through direct assistance, consultation, creation of instructional materials, design and delivery of educational events, presentations and orientations.
• Actively identify, evaluate, and trial new resources and tools. Maximize use of open resources for use with individuals, groups and campus wide as appropriate. Where needed, provide input for decisions regarding purchase and implementation of new resources.

Research & Service - 20%
• Work collaboratively on library-, campus-and system-wide teams to iterate, develop and implement services.
• Participate in scholarly, professional, and service activities that enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion across education, library programs, and the profession.

Qualifications:
Required:
• Must possess (or in process of obtaining) Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent degree.
• Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.
• Applicants must have obtained the degree requirement by the time of hire.
• Minimum 2 years of professional library experience providing services in an academic health science or related library setting.
• Understanding of emerging trends in health sciences librarianship, including evidence-based practice, scholarly communications, data management, and new technologies for information discovery and management. A commitment to "scan the horizon" for new ideas and opportunities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills that encompass interpersonal, analytical and organizational communication.
• Evidence of ability to work independently as needed and excel at collaborative work both within and external to the library.
• Demonstrated ability to gather information by consulting a wide variety of sources, researching, compiling, organizing and interpreting data and materials from various sources.

Preferred:
• Background in biomedical/basic sciences
• Experience teaching and developing face-to-face and online instructional sessions for adult learners.
• Experience providing literature search services, systematic review services and other reference support in the health sciences to clinicians, educators, faculty and researchers.
• Demonstrated experience with creative applications of technology to deliver reference and instructional services.
• Technologically comfortable and adept at identifying and learning to use and teach new technologies.
• Demonstrated commitment to professional development and evidence of professional scholarly interests.

Administrative Information:
Appointment will be to the Associate Librarian or Librarian rank with the level of appointment and starting salary dependent upon qualifications. Associate Librarian salary range is $63,038 - $99,154 and Librarian salary range is $84,507 - $136,507.
