Position description

Junior Specialist- Manoli Lab

A position is open for a technician in the research group of Devanand Manoli at UCSF. The Manoli lab investigates neural circuits in the prairie vole brain that control social attachment, using a combination of genetic, molecular, and physiologic approaches.

The successful candidate will perform administrative duties such as ordering, and assist graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with: performing behavioral experiments, and molecular biology. Responsibilities may include dissections, basic animal husbandry, performing surgeries, histology, running behavioral assays, genotyping, and colony maintenance.

This would be an ideal position for a recent or upcoming graduate seeking to gain laboratory research experience using state-of-the-art techniques in neuroscience prior to applying to graduate or medical school, and it is our intention for the selected candidates to contribute meaningfully to projects and co-author peer-reviewed publications.

Applicants should have recently received or be expecting to receive an undergraduate degree in biology or a related discipline. Applicants must possess the degree by the time of appointment. Experience working in a research laboratory is a prerequisite. This is a full-time position, but there is start-date flexibility for the right candidate.
