Sello Laboratory
University of California, San Francisco

The Sello lab is now recruiting a Professional Researcher. The job duties and responsibilities will include: Performing daily operations to establish and maintain a zebrafish drug screening and behavioral phenotyping projects. Manage molecular experiments such as PCR, gateway cloning, CRISPR and genotyping to generate new models of host/pathogen interactions, neuroinflammation and neuropharmacology in the zebrafish. Analyze and interpret data and results to refine experimental design. Interact with and contribute to a database of behavioral profiles using python and Matlab scripts to understand how small molecules alter animal behavior. Handle zebrafish embryos and larvae, performing water exchanges, and scheduled housing transfers. Complete monthly animal health checks. Respond to quarterly updates of the animal facility to the IACUC supervisors to ensure proper maintenance and care of the zebrafish. Develop and write standard operating procedures and help with BUA preparation for research projects. Determine valuable transgenic and mutant lines to breed and maintain. Perform advanced neuroimaging experiments in zebrafish to determine mechanism of action for newly discovered small molecules. Visualize host/pathogen interactions using in vivo imaging. Interact with and teach graduate students in the lab to utilize zebrafish as an in vivo model for drug discovery.

Required Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Neuropharmacology or a related science with + 5 years of experience with and knowledge of in vivo behavioral drug screens in zebrafish.
• Experience maintaining, breeding, raising, and phenotyping zebrafish
• Well versed in advanced microscopy imaging techniques including GCaMP functional imaging and whole brain neural activity mapping with anti-pERK immunohistochemistry
• Experience with host/pathogen, neuroinflammation, and neuropharmacological modeling including generation, characterization and maintenance of novel transgenic and mutant animal models
• A good understanding of open source electronic prototyping hardware including arduinos, various sensors, and output devices like LEDs and solenoids
• Proficiency in the coding languages python and matlab for data analysis and database interaction and maintenance as well as image and video processing
• A good understanding of general computer maintenance and networking
