Assistant Specialist- Fung Lab

The Fung lab specializes in computational, imaging, and genomic approaches to understand the dynamical changes within cells that occur during meiosis. We have broad interests in multiple aspects of reproductive and cell biology including in vivo chromosome dynamics, genome-wide recombination analyses based on high throughput sequencing and developing alternative model systems to assess environmental toxicology leading to infertility. In addition, we use high-throughput imaging methods to understand organelle morphological changes that occur upon genetic and chemical insults. The responsibilities include doing basic lab procedures (e.g. Westerns, PCRs, preparing sequencing libraries, yeast genetics and biology) maintaining the lab, ensuring lab safety and managing the In Cell 6000 imaging platform. An important technique that the candidate will need to master is 3D fluorescence imaging.

Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in cell or molecular biology, biophysics, computational biology, computer science, statistics, mathematics chemistry, physics or related field OR five years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization
  • Prior lab experience
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skill
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team on several different projects

Candidates holding a degree in biological/medical science but would like to work on computationally related questions are welcome to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-graduate training in field
  • Independent specialized research
  • Experience in computer programming is a plus
  • Quantitative skills is also a plus
  • Imaging experience
