Director, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program
UCSF School of Nursing seeks a Director for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program. This full- time faculty position provides overall leadership for the program and its students, and directs the administrative aspects of the program. In the administrative role of Director, s/he reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs and serves as part of the School’s academic program leadership team. This search will be managed by the School of Nursing, Dean’s Office. The candidate will be appointed to one of the School of Nursing's departments. Departmental affiliation will be based on her/his area of expertise.
In addition to the administrative oversight of the program, the Director will participate in other aspects of the faculty role, including teaching, scholarship, clinical service, and community service.
The DNP degree is one of three degrees offered at the School of Nursing: the MS, PhD and DNP. A small group of pre-licensure students is admitted annually to an accelerated curriculum in nursing and articulated into a specialty area in the master’s program following licensure. As an all-graduate institution, the School has been focused on preparing leaders for careers in clinical care, knowledge development, and as educators. The DNP, UCSF’s newest degree, prepares leaders in implementation science who develop, evaluate and disseminate the results of evidence-based interventions that improve health care outcomes and health care systems.
The UCSF DNP Program accepted its first student cohort in spring 2018 and completed its initial CCNE site visit in September 2019. As initially implemented, the curriculum of this post-masters practice-focused doctorate develops nurses’ knowledge and skills to achieve competencies for advanced nursing roles in direct and indirect patient and population health. It uses a combination of online and face-to-face delivery approaches and builds on previously acquired clinical, research, leadership and policy expertise.
The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series depending on qualifications.
Position Responsibilities Include:
• In collaboration with other School leaders, develop a vision for expansion of the DNP program to include pathways that address the emerging needs of the clinical and educational communities
• Serve as a thought leader in the national conversation about the role of the DNP and its evolution in care delivery and educational roles
• Develop strategies for strengthening the knowledge development/knowledge dissemination partnership between the PhD in nursing and the DNP
• Oversee the curriculum development and educational delivery strategies of the DNPprogram to promote access to working professionals and to a diverse population of students
• Collaborate within the UC system schools of nursing to develop a rational approach to DNP course offerings
• Operate a fiscally successful program, including monitoring and recommending additional resources, as necessary
• Monitor the curriculum for compliance with national accreditation and UCSF GraduateDivision requirements
• Provide supervision and leadership for DNP program faculty and staff
• Collaborate with department chairs, the Associate Dean for Academic Programs and the DNP Associate Director to facilitate curriculum or resource sharing, where feasible, within guidelines
for self-supporting programs
• Oversee marketing, recruitment and screening, and enrollment of program applicants
• Collaborate with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and department chairs to identify and enable faculty development opportunities
• Represent the DNP Program in School of Nursing leadership forums
• Oversee collection and analysis of DNP program data and support analysis related tomeeting accreditation standards; participate in the writing of required national professional and state accreditation reports, and other required UC, state or School of Nursing reports
• Collaborates with UCSF Health Leadership and the Chief Nurse Executive on evidence-based nursing practice and approaches to continuous quality improvement processes
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Doctorate (PhD or DNP) in nursing or related field from an accredited program
• Demonstrated experience with curriculum development
• Current or eligible for licensure in California as Registered Nurse
• Graduate level teaching experience in an academic institution, in either face-to-face or in an online learning modality
• Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure and clinical experience at the APRN level
• Commitment to building a DNP program, nurturing a culture that is welcoming, inclusive and supportive, and engaging diverse ideas and discovery
• Evidence of successful extramural funding record
• Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and networking skills
• Demonstrated leadership experience in academic and/or clinical practice settings
• Ability to successfully negotiate and problem solve in diverse settings
• Leadership and/or administrative experience in an academic setting including analytic and strategic planning skills
