Osher Center for Integrative Medicine (OCIM) Junior Specialist

The UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine seeks a Junior Specialist to join its research team. The UCSF Osher Center is one of the world’s leading research programs studying integrative medicine approaches to health care, including meditation/mindfulness, yoga, acupuncture, and other mind-body approaches, as well as developing novel methodologies to assess health. The center has several core research faculty members, with funding from NIH, PCORI, and foundations. The junior specialist will perform entry-level duties related to the support and coordination of clinical studies and may receive training and development to prepare and advance within the series. The position may involve the coordination of one or more single or multi-site, active or follow-up clinical trials; helping prepare protocols for study initiation; helping design flow sheets, data forms and source documents; gathering and interpret medical, surgical and laboratory data regarding clinical trial subjects; may involve application of understanding of inclusion/exclusion eligibility criteria for protocols; helping recruit, enroll, register, schedule and retain study subjects; recording protocol specific treatments and assure collection and shipment of samples; assisting research personnel to keep patients on study schedules; completing study forms to submit to sponsors and/or appropriate agencies; collecting, entering, and cleaning data into study databases, maintaining data quality; assisting with data analysis; assisting with preparation of reports and tables; attending team meetings; and performing other duties as assigned. The junior specialist will be responsible for administrative research coordination including recruiting, screening, enrolling, tracking and follow-up of participants; collecting and entering study data. The junior specialist will work closely with study PIs and/or Project Directors to ensure seamless program coordination and data collection and management. The junior specialist will work with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and health practitioners to develop, implement, and evaluate the study protocol. Must be able and willing to adhere to study guidelines, keep accurate records, and maintain confidentiality. Must attend regular study team meetings.

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience in psychology or in a relevant field, such as communications sciences or psychobiology. Experience in at least one laboratory conducting human subjects research preferred. Successful candidates must have abilities to work with technology platforms including box.com and Microsoft Office Suite; use of SPSS and Excel Macros are advantages.

Appointments will be in the specialist series. The position is a 100% time position, with some flexibility depending on the preferences of a successful applicant and the availability of funded projects. Salary and will be commensurate with training and experience.
