Associate/Full level Specialist – Kornblith Lab

The duties and responsibilities for this Specialist positon are:

  1. In depth training in molecular biology with focused experience and expertise in complex ex-vivo assays of platelet biology to include:

    • platelet genomics
    • platelet isolation techniques for bulk transcriptomics
    • platelet isolation techniques via surface receptor flow sorting
    • platelet RNA isolation and sequencing
    • platelet electron microscopy
    • cellular flow cytometry with specific experience in measuring platelet-monocyte aggregates
    • platelet aggregometry and viscoelastic assay
    • cell culture for endothelial and flow chamber cell experiments
    • ELISA and Western blot
  2. Independent and collaboration design of research experiments to include:

    • Consult literature to ascertain the state of knowledge in and around platelet biology and injury science and maintain currency
    • Determine how to apply novel techniques and strategies to address problems in post-injury platelet biology and hemostasis
    • Interpret experimental results to inform further research
    • Consult literature to establish broader context for data generated in the lab
  3. Independent abstract, manuscript and grant preparation to include:

    • Scientific writing of abstract, manuscripts, and grant applications -- Methodologic focus
    • Editing of all output from laboratory
  4. General laboratory to include:

    • Manage day-to-day laboratory operations including prepare, order, and maintain supplies, and troubleshoot equipment and experiments when problems emerge

Qualifications:
• Specialists appointed at the Assistant and Associate rank must possess a master’s degree or must have five to ten years of research experience.
• Specialists appointed at the full rank must possess a terminal degree or must have at least ten or more years of research experience.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
• Strong interpersonal skills, especially when collaborating with other researchers and research staff.
• Ability to accurately record and compute data for standard curves, perform simple statistical analysis and yield basis, graphic data displays and figures.
