Division of Rheumatology - Specialist

This Individual will play a leading role in managing experimental projects in the lab including: collaborate with graduate students to troubleshoot and develop new molecular and sequencing assays, lead and train a small team of junior experimental technicians, meet and plan with PI, Dr. Ye to optimize various experimental efforts, and interface with experimental cores throughout the campus.

Qualifications:
• Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least 4 years of research experience.
• Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least 5 years of experience in the relevant specialization.
• Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least 5-10 years of experience in the relevant specialization.
• Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or at least 10 or more years of experience in the relevant specialization.
• Excellent communication and organization skills are a must.
• The successful candidate should be experienced with molecular biology techniques such as handling DNA and RNA samples, PCR, and cloning. In addition, the candidate should have sufficient experience in cell culture techniques, particularly maintaining human or mouse pluripotent stem cells (ESCs/iPSCs) and/or human immune cells.

Preferred qualifications:
• Additional skills in genomic technologies are a plus including RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), open chromatin sequencing (ATAC-seq), and single cell genomics. Experience with vendors and ordering systems is also a plus.

The Specialist will supervise two or more employees and will be responsible for full oversight for staffing, performance management, and daily operations. Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
