Description

Production Chemist

The Production Chemist will work on the manufacture of routine and research PET radiopharmaceuticals in a cGMP environment for clinical use. Will also work with quality control processes of PET radiopharmaceuticals to meet cGMP requirements, and understand HPLC, TLC and gamma spectroscopy. Will also be responsible for radiation safety duties in compliance with regulations. The primary goal of the production Chemist position is to further the development of PET pharmaceuticals at the University of California, San Francisco, and to work in a matrix structure to meet research and clinical demand. Will take a leadership position in radiopharmaceutical production facility and will be the lead chemist on all research radiopharmaceutical productions. Will plan the production of the compounds, order precursors, organize the team to perform the duties and evaluate the quality of the products before its usage on subjects.

This position will report to the manager of the laboratory in the development of standard operating procedures for the investigational PET drugs such that the facilities, equipment, and inventory control meet the associated regulatory requirements. This position will also assist in creating new approaches in the synthesis and labeling of novel radiopharmaceuticals for clinical and animal use, and in working with the director and/or manager in writing investigational drug applications (IND).

We are considering individuals at multiple levels of experience. Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related subject (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience. Specialists appointed at the Assistant or Associate ranks must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least five years to ten years of research experience. Specialists appointed at the full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of research experience. A MS/PhD and experience in drug production/development is preferred.
