CLINICIAN EDUCATOR AND ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR ACUTE CARE SERVICES

The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco seeks an outstanding Clinician-Educator physician for Associate Director of Acute Care Services. The Associate Director will provide adult acute care internal medicine, supervise the clinical care of Nurse Practitioners and trainees, contribute to the development and auditing of quality standards, implement technological innovation in the delivery of acute care, and actively participate in our adoption of the UCSF Lean healthcare system. Experience with minor procedures and splinting is an asset but not required. DGIM Acute Care Services operates two acute care clinics with an annual volume of 15,000 to 17,000 visits. Candidates must have demonstrated skill in ambulatory internal medicine and the provision of comprehensive care to diverse populations and demonstrated participation in scholarly activities related to education of medical students or residents, collaborative clinical research studies, or other academic activities. Candidates must be American Board of Internal Medicine certified or eligible and possess (or in process of obtaining) both valid California medical license and valid DEA. Applicant must have all requirements met by start date. Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.

Candidates will be full time faculty in the UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine and will have the opportunity to be engaged in scholarly activities related to education of medical students and/or residents, quality improvement initiatives and other academic activities. DGIM was founded in 1980 and has grown to include almost 80 faculty members, 64 internal medicine residents (including 30 primary care residents), 56 campus and 73 practice staff. Our general medicine practice serves a diverse population of about 25,000 patients and we are proud of the quality care we deliver to patients with complex chronic illness and the high marks we receive in patient satisfaction scores. DGIM faculty researchers focus on a broad spectrum of disease and population-based research including patient-doctor communication, tobacco control, geriatric care, informatics, genetic epidemiology, cancer prevention, health disparities, cardiovascular disease risk, diabetes and medical decision-making. DGIM teaches outpatient general internal medicine to residents and students through continuity and urgent care experiences.
