ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR POSITION (non-tenure track)

The Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science (DPTRS) at the University of California, San Francisco, invites applications for a 12-month, full-time Assistant or Associate level Professor in the Adjunct series (i.e. non-tenure track) for teaching in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. The Department also offers a PhD in Rehabilitation Science and two post-professional residencies in Orthopedics and Acute Care. Additional residencies are planned.

The Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science (DPTRS) is a clinical department within the School of Medicine, and includes 29 faculty members, DPT graduate students, Orthopedic Residents, Acute Care Residents, PhD students, and volunteer clinical faculty members. The DPTRS also operates three large faculty practice clinics, and a Health and Wellness Center. The DPT program is a joint program with San Francisco State University (adding another 5 faculty members).

Responsibilities will include teaching, scholarship, and service within the field of physical therapy with preference for candidates with expertise and documented excellence in neuromuscular rehabilitation, neuroanatomy, pharmacology, pathology, and/or evidence-based practice. There will also be opportunities to interact and teach advanced concepts to students in the PhD in Rehabilitation Science program and physical therapist residents in the Orthopedic Residency and/or Acute Care Residency program.

Important components of the position will be the use of contemporary pedagogical and instructional technologies for use in the classroom, specifically innovative approaches for teaching adult learners.

All faculty members are expected to develop an area of scholarship. Research experience and/or the demonstrated ability to bring research questions and findings into teaching is highly desirable. Salary and title will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and training.

Required Qualifications:
• Must have (or in process of obtaining) PhD, EdD, or equivalent academic doctoral-level degree.
• Licensed as physical therapist or eligible for licensure in California by the time of hire.
• Relevant experience in teaching and clinical/basic/educational research.

• The ability to work with a highly productive team is critical to the success of this position.
• Applicant must have the degree requirement and the eligible for licensure in California met by time of hire.
• Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.

Preference will be given to candidates with a well-conceived research agenda synergistic with current faculty interests and potential for securing extramural funding. Board certification is preferred but not required.
