The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Division of Hospital Medicine is seeking a research professional to join our Division and serve as an “academic research coach” and project manager in our group. The overall responsibilities will be to provide research guidance, coaching, and project/analytic support for faculty and fellows in the Division, under the supervision of the Division’s Research Core.
We search for a professional with prior applicable experience in a relevant research field (in particular, clinical outcomes and epidemiology) including qualitative and/or quantitative research studies, project management, and on-time, on-budget project execution. The role requires understanding of observational study designs, quantitative research methods, and data analysis and interpretation. In addition, the role requires a high degree of organization, ability to exercise initiative and judgment, excellent written and oral communication skills, strong work ethic of collaboration, and exceptional interpersonal skills.
The ideal candidate has at least a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as public health or health services research, and a passion for improving the health of people and improving health systems.
Responsibilities for the position:
• Plan and perform research-related tasks
• Provide project management for individual research projects
• Advise faculty, staff, and trainees on research-related questions
• Identify, select, extract and summarize data and build analytic datasets
• Conduct and interpret data analyses using a common statistical programming language
• Conduct literature searches, and write literature summaries and manuscripts
• Assist with Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions
• Assist with dissemination and communication of research results to internal and external audiences
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
• At least a Masters degree in an applicable public health or research-related field, or a minimum of at least five years of experience in the relevant specialization
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
• General understanding of scientific theory and methods
• General programming and statistical skills in a common statistical language (such as SAS, STATA, R)
• General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs
• Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance
• Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills
• Outstanding interpersonal and collaborative skills
