Research Specialist – Sano Lab

The Department of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking for a Research Specialist at the Assistant or Associate Level. The Research Specialist at the UCSF Sano Lab will focus on basic science of cardiac stem cells. The specialist will culture cardiac tissue sample of the right atrium from hypoplastic left heart syndrome and single ventricle patients. The Research Specialist will conduct our on-going clinical trial titled: “Cell-Based Therapy to Improve Ventricular Function in Children with Single Ventricle Physiology.” The Research Specialist will also analysis the mechanism of heart failure in patients with cardiomyopathy using CRISPR-Cas9. The Research Specialist will apply for NIH, California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) and other grants. The incumbent will edit and translate research protocols.

Required Qualifications:

  • Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or must have at least five years of research experience.
  • Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or must have at least five to ten years of research experience.
  • Trained in the area of molecular biology, genetic engineering and animal study (DNA/RNAextraction, PCR, cloning, CRISPR, IHC, orthotopic tumor implantation and cell culture).

Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission. Applicants must have obtained the degree requirement for the Specialist level by the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-graduate training in field.
  • Independent specialized research.
  • Advance degree in Biology, Molecular Biology or Biotechnology.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public
Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
