Position description

The Hebrok Lab at the UCSF Diabetes Center is seeking applicants for an Assistant or Associate Professional Researcher. The candidate for this position will be responsible for leading human pluripotent differentiation projects into pancreatic islet cells as part of the Hebrok lab and the UCSF Diabetes Center. He/she will participate in collaborative efforts to develop strategies to advance stem cell derived-islets from the lab setting into pre-clinical studies. The incumbent will also engage in designing and implementing high-throughput screens to identify novel drug candidates as well as regulators for beta cell health and function. Assays include directed differentiation of ES and iPS cells, flow cytometry, islet physiology and functional studies, bioinformatics, in vivo assays, transcriptomics and genomics. The incumbent will instruct a group of researchers consisting of students, interns, postdoctoral fellows, and staff research associates to carry out these tasks. Activities to be carried out by the incumbent include orchestrating multiple projects, training and supervising staff and fellows, working in multidisciplinary, cross-functional environment. The candidate is also required to write grants for conducting independent research.

The incumbent must have a PhD in biomedical sciences and postdoctoral training in renowned pancreas biology labs. He/she should have at least 12 years of research experience in stem cell biology. An appointee in this position must demonstrate continuous and effective engagement in independent research and is required to have strong publication background in pancreatic differentiation of stem cells. Candidate must have prior experience in mentoring and leading a team of researchers. He/she must be highly motivated and organized to drive multiple projects forward at the same time.
