Position description

Applications are sought from current UCSF faculty (all schools) for the position of CoLabs Director (CoD) under the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Research. This is an internal UCSF search.

This is a part-time position (estimated to be 25%-30% effort) that will be filled by an existing UCSF faculty member whose academic rank may be at or above the Associate Professor Level by June 2019. Applicants in the Ladder Rank, In Residence, Clinical X, Health Sciences Clinical or Adjunct series will be considered.

The CoLabs is a groundbreaking concept that brings together several established and successful, but previously separate, cores into a new model for research collaboration. The CoD will report to the Vice Chancellor for Research and will work closely with a CoLabs Steering Committee with broad representation from the UCSF research community.

The CoLabs Director (CoD) will be responsible for overseeing the establishment, operation, and continued development of the CoLabs as a major new resource for the UCSF research community. The CoD will work closely with the directors of each component CoLab to assure that each CoLab is functioning effectively and that component CoLabs are interacting effectively. The CoD will work with the steering committee and the component CoLab directors to oversee the progress of CoLabs projects (CoProjects), to establish criteria for selection of new CoProjects, and to secure and manage resources to support CoProjects and other CoLabs activities. The CoD will take an active role in informing the UCSF community about CoLabs and encouraging UCSF investigators to take advantage of the CoLabs model to support new research funded by extramural grants and contracts and by philanthropy.
