Research Specialist in Liver Tissue Engineering
The Department of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking a Specialist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full rank. The responsibilities of the position are to investigate the cellular and molecular processes required for successful liver tissue engineering. Laboratory investigations he/she may perform include sterile cell culture, mouse hepatocyte and non-parenchymal cell isolation, matrix gel construction, maintenance of human stem cell lines, three-dimensional (3D) organoid culture, 3D bioprinting, maintenance of transgenic mouse colonies, RNA purification, real-time quantitative reverse-transcription PCR, ELISA assays, immunohistochemistry, immunoblotting, as well as survival and non-survival mouse surgeries. The candidate will perform laboratory experiments and data analysis for ongoing projects in the lab. He/she should be able to work well under the direction of the PI as well as independently. He/she should be willing to perform rodent experiments and work with human stem cells. The candidate may be responsible for basic lab/equipment maintenance, supplies ordering, and bookkeeping. We prefer candidates who have good public speaking and writing skills and the ability to draft papers/grants under the PI’s guidance.

Specialists appointed at the Assistant or Associate Rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a Master’s or PhD degree (or equivalent) or must have at least five to ten years of research experience. Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a PhD degree (or equivalent degree) or must have at least ten or more years of research experience. Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.
