Junior, Assistant, or Associate Specialist – Department of Pathology
The Department of Pathology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking a Junior, Assistant or Associate Specialist for the laboratories of Dr. Jayanta Debnath (whose lab focuses on autophagy and cancer) and the Translational Research Lab (TRL).
The responsibilities for the position are the following:
1.) Perform specialized experimental research in the fields of cell and molecular biology, proteomics, and epithelial cancer biology in collaboration with other scientists in the Debnath lab and faculty in the Department of Pathology. Experiments that will be conducted will include, but are not be limited to, studies of molecular and cell biology, protein biochemistry, and monolayer and 3D cell culture.
2.) Serve as lab manager of the Debnath lab and TRL. Major tasks will include, but are not limited to, helping write and maintaining compliance with institutional biological safety, chemical safety and IACUC protocols; placing and receiving orders; organizing equipment; maintaining and organizing stock supplies and reagents; assigning lab tasks to other members; and shipping requested reagents to other laboratories.
- Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must possess a Bachelor’s degree or must have four years of research experience.
- Specialists appointed at the Assistant or Associate rank must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or must have at least five to ten years of research experience.
- Experience with tissue culture and cell biology.
- Experience with molecular biology and protein biochemistry.
Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public
