The Department of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery at University of California, San Francisco is now recruiting for an Associate or Full Specialist. This position will focus on preclinical studies to develop new therapeutic approaches for head and neck cancer, and to determine the role of common mutations in this disease. The involvement of the immune system in the progression of head and neck cancer will also be investigated. Experimental approaches will include generation and analysis of engineered cell line models, biochemical assessment of cell signaling pathways, establishment and treatment of mouse models of head and neck cancer, and flow cytometric and CyTOF analyses of immune cell populations. Additional duties will include searching of genomic and proteomic databases, and mentoring/training of medical students and junior scientists.

Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master’s degree or must have at least 5-10 years of experience in the relevant specialization. Appointees to the Full Specialist rank should possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or must have at least ten or more years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Candidates must have expertise in one of the following areas: recombinant DNA technology, PCR, protein biochemistry, or flow cytometry. The candidate should enjoy working in a team-oriented and interactive environment and possess good oral and written communication skills. All requirements are to be met by the commencement of employment.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.
