Assistant Specialist – Springer Lab

The Cardiovascular Research Institute at University of California, San Francisco is seeking an Assistant Specialist. The specialization of this position involves the biology of vascular endothelial response to smoke and aerosol inhalation in rat models.

Required Qualifications:
• Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or have a minimum of five years of experience in the relevant specialization.
• Practical experience in measurement of femoral artery flow-mediated dilation in living rats.
• Practical experience in operation of UCSF rebuilt Teague sidestream smoke generation system and exposure of rats.
• Practical experience in operation of Gram Research vaping machine and its use to expose rats to mainstream cigarette smoke, free-base e-cigarette aerosol, and JUUL aerosol.
• Practical experience with exposure of rats to marijuana leaf vaporizer aerosol.
• Working knowledge of Kintek gas exposure systems for use with acrolein and acetaldehyde.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.
